At Joppa, it’s truly all about the cheese. Everyday we have more than one hundred artisan cheeses to purvey, both international and domestic, from cave-aged Swiss Gruyere to Truffle-studded Tuscan Pecorino to Californian Humboldt Fog to a velvety soft goat cheese from a farm located just two miles away in Newbury, Massachusetts. In addition to the classics, we continually seek out new cheeses from burgeoning producers on our travels throughout the country and abroad in order to bring them to our customers…because it’s really all about the cheese.
We carry only the finest cured meats made by craftsman from Italy, Spain and France, as well as right here in the United States, from distinguished companies such as La Quercia in Iowa, who source only humanely raised heritage breed meat, to Pio Tosini in Italy, a family-run company among the first to produce prosciutto in Parma. Our pâtés are handcrafted in New York using traditional recipes, all-natural ingredients and century-old, authentic methods. Our wide-ranging salami selection features Italian and French style meats including the peppercorn-studded Sopressata, rich wine-flavored Rosette de Lyon and garlic and red pepper infused Saucisson Basquese, amongst others. We also offer only the best pancetta, handmade mortadella, deli meats and cheeses for slicing, and many more charcuterie accoutrements.
We offer hard-to-find international ingredients, rare spices and kitchen essentials for both the seasoned chef as well as the everyday cook. In addition to the best the world has to offer, we pride ourselves on sourcing the best local, organic and sustainable ingredients available. We have a unique collection of Extra Virgin Olive Oils, hand-selected from small production groves and vineyards in Italy, France, Chile, Greece and California. Our honey selection is just as diverse, featuring a plethora of domestic and European honeys, as well as a local honey produced right here in town; the same can be said of our balsamic vinegars, sea salts, nuts and spices. We carry only the finest pastas, rice, grains and beans. Our coffee comes from Coastal Roasters, a New England-based company that not only supports Fair Trade principles but whose coffee beans are unparalleled in freshness and quality. Those with a sweet tooth will love our selection of local and international chocolate varietals as well as our frozen treats from Gelato Fiasco in Maine.
Beer + Wine
We strongly believe in the sustainable, organic and biodynamic production of fine wines, and are proud to offer a large selection of wines produced with organic grapes. Many of our wines come from small production wineries in France, Italy, Spain, Germany and Hungary, as well as a plethora of domestic wines from California and the Northwest. In addition, we have the area’s best selection of local and hard-to-find craft beers. We hand-select and taste everything before it makes it onto the shelf, and we will be glad to help you with any pairing questions you may have. Look for our in-store staff ‘picks’ for some sure-to-please selections in any price range.
The items found in our homes need to be long lasting and well made to withstand every day wear and tear. Whether it's a vessel, dishcloth, cutting board, carrier or tool, we carefully choose our housewares with an eye towards utility, quality and beauty. We strive to find unique, handcrafted, high-end products to compliment the beautiful food sure to grace them.
